Core Studio
Core Studio is a dynamic introduction to contemporary studio art and design practices. Core Studio provides a base of knowledge that students will use in all disciplines of art and design; such as the use and discussion of formal elements and principles of design, composition skills, research and ideation methods, material handling, craftsmanship, and visual language. Core Studio is comprised of Surface, Space, and Time Studio courses, all of which involve rigorous hands-on projects and exercises. All 3 courses focus on elements and principles of design, creative thinking, and problem solving.
Surface Studio focuses on 2-dimensional concepts and composition through analog and digital projects. Students focus on visual communication through two-dimensional media and color theory, foundational digital techniques, and traditional material handling.
Space Studio focuses on 3-dimensional space including concepts and techniques like installation, wearable objects, digital fabrication, and wood shop techniques. Students focus on visual communication through three-dimensional media and composition in the built environment, foundational digital techniques, material handling, fabrication, and shop experience.
Time Studio covers time-based media like sound, video, performance, and serial design. Students focus on visual communication through time-based media composition including foundational time-based methods for audio/video production, performance, and social practice.
