Motown Museum is hiring tour guides to provide guided tours to the public. Guides lead small and large groups through the history of Hitsville USA.
Motown Museum hosts visitors from around the world and guides act as professional ambassadors of the museum. Tour guides inform visitors about the historical and professional history of the founder, Berry Gordy, including the music and business practices of Motown. Guides should be well-versed in the culture, history and sound of Motown.
Guides work part time with an understanding that there are high and low seasons, the busiest periods being summers and holidays. Tours run five to six days per week, year-round. The number of tours assigned to a tour guide is dependent on the number of tours booked and the number of guides on duty. Generally, tours run 60 minutes and are provided between 10 am and 5 pm, Tuesday - Saturday; Monday - Saturday in July and August. Tour guides work four days a week.
Successful completion of a rigorous training program is required, as well as ongoing professional development throughout a guide's tenure.
Candidate Requirements:
• Enthusiasm for music history, culture and history of Detroit
• Musical aptitude preferred
• Prior educational and/or tour guide experience a plus
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal and public speaking skills
• Experience working with diverse groups and personalities. Ability to work well with senior citizens and persons with disabilities
• Professional appearance and demeanor essential
• Primary availability at least two - three week days, availability to work Saturdays
• Must be able to speak English fluently. Bilingual candidates preferred
• Attention to detail, punctuality, flexibility, initiative, patience and professionalism
• Ability to be on one's feet for at least two (2) hours at a time
• International applicants must have green card or permission to work in the U.S.
