Master's student takes third at 3MT competition

Eloise Germic, a journalism Master's student within the Department if Communication, took third place at the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition. Nominees from Wayne State departments, schools and colleges competed in the annual Graduate School competition during the Graduate and Postdoctoral Symposium on March 3.

Germic presented her master's thesis which examines the impact that Instagram motherhood bloggers have on the perceived parenting skill of the typical American mother.

"Participating in this competition was a great way to practice my academic presentation skills, especially since I'm planning to pursue my PhD," said Germic. "I'm really honored that I placed in the competition, especially since I was the only master's competitor to place and the only non-STEM student to place."

Germic, also president of Wayne State's Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), took home a $250 award and will be granted the 3MT micro-credential.

The 3MT is a research communication competition and hosted by the Wayne State Graduate School. Participants present a compelling oration of their thesis and its significance in three minutes or less. The competition is open to master's and Ph.D. students completing a thesis or a dissertation.
