Graduate Student Presents Research at Conference

Andy Jarema, a WSU graduate student pursing his MM in Composition/Theory, has had his proposal, "Non-Linear Narratives, Control, and Agency: Video Games and Andrew Norman's Play," accepted for presentation at the 2018 University of Toronto Graduate Student Music Conference on March 16-18. Mr. Jarema's presentation, based on his term project in MUH 5300 (Music Research), examines Norman's work for the way it adopts techniques derived from video games as compositional devices in a symphonic setting and draws on conversations with the composer. "This research is really cutting edge," says Dr. Joshua S. Duchan, who taught MUH 5300. "It combines ethnography with innovative analytical techniques to help listeners better understand this contemporary work." Congratulations, Andy!
