Elaine L. Jacob Gallery presents < LIGHT HOUSE + >

The James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History's Elaine L. Jacob Gallery is pleased to present < LIGHT HOUSE + >, a virtual exhibition featured on waynestategalleries.org. The artworks featured in this exhibition share enlightened experiences to encourage strength and hope.

This exhibition was organized in collaboration with Kate Shin, executive curator, and the Waterfall Mansion and Gallery, NYC. The works can be seen in-person at Waterfall Mansion & Gallery, NYC. For more information, visit www.waterfall-gallery.com/2021-light-house-plus.

< LIGHT HOUSE + > celebrates six artists selected by Waterfall Gallery's exclusive partnership with San Clemente Palace Kempinski Venice for art curation in the historic venue during the Venice Biennale Architettura 2021.

Works and documentary presented will feature the following artists: Chae Eunmi, Hye Rim Lee, Hyong Nam Ahn, Jinwon Chang, Lee Seung Hee and Sun K. Kwak.

Throughout the pandemic, these artists have embraced various approaches in producing artwork during isolation. With limited studio access and exhibition venues, each artist has discovered new platforms to further their practice. < LIGHT HOUSE + > serves as a beacon of light with emphasis on the artists' determination by sharing their creative practices to advocate for art students attending WSU and those within the Detroit community at large.

< LIGHT HOUSE + > includes a special exhibition by Orna Ben-Ami and a retrospective exhibition by Geri Taper. Through their artistic practice, each artist explores personal experiences and philosophies using symbolism within materials, colors, and imagery. Their artwork introduces a sense of reflection, encouraging the viewer to acknowledge their personal motivations, through healing. This extension of < LIGHT HOUSE + > further emphasizes artists' passion to engage viewers during these trying times.
