Department of Theatre and Dance accepting applications into part-time faculty hiring pools

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance at Wayne State University is accepting applications for inclusion in part-time faculty hiring pools in the following areas: acting, design technology, introduction to theatre, movement, voice, modern, African, ballet, jazz, ballroom, hip hop and dance in general education.

Theatre

Part-time faculties generally teach one course and occasionally two courses per semester. In the areas of survey courses, a three-credit course can involve 3 contact hours per week. In the areas of performance and design, a one or two-credit course can involve 3 to 5 contact hours per week and a three-credit course can involve 4 to 6 contact hours. Some survey courses may be taught online and asynchronous. Part-time faculty members are responsible for instructing students during the course hours, evaluating student work completed in the course, completing participation and early academic assessments, and holding office hours on a regular basis. For online courses, part-time faculty members are responsible for instructing students via the Canvas learning management system, evaluating the submitted work, completing participation and early academic assessments, and effectively communicating with the students.

Dance

Part-time faculties generally teach one course and occasionally two courses per semester. In the technique areas, a two-credit course can involve six contact hours per week. In the area of dance in general education, a three-credit course can involve three - five contact hours per week  Some survey courses may be taught online and asynchronous. Part-time faculty members are responsible for instructing students during the course hours, evaluating student work completed in the course, completing participation and early academic assessments, and holding office hours on a regular basis. For online courses, part-time faculty members are responsible for instructing students via the Canvas learning management system, evaluating the submitted work, completing participation and early academic assessments, and effectively communicating with the students

To be eligible for consideration, a candidate should possess a master’s degree in a field of specialization appropriate to the area of the assignment. Candidates should submit a portfolio including the following:  a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a short statement of teaching philosophy of not more than one page in length, and the names of three references (including their email and telephone number). Applicants who would like their materials returned after review should include an SASE. The letter of application must identify the specific hiring pool or pools for which the applicant is applying.
