Teaching artists how not to starve
by Amy Haimerl
Recently, the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFPCA) at Wayne State hosted a Business of Art workshop, teaching some of the skills found in the business school to budding painters and writers. "The arts have always been about entrepreneurship because artists, at some level, have to feed themselves," said Matthew Seeger, CFPCA dean. What Seeger sees on campus are arts students who are passionate about the idea of entrepreneurship, using their creativity as a way to chart their own paths.

WSU Panel Discussion Hopes to Change the Way Detroit Artists View the Value of their Work
by Karen Dybis
There's a reason the term "starving artist" has a place in our language. It's because it is, for the most part, extremely difficult to pay for everyday necessities when you work as an artist. Or is it? That's the debate that will be discussed tonight at Wayne State University. A panel of experts will come together to talk about "The Business of Art" at Wayne State University's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. The event, at the Schaver Music Recital Hall, starts with a one-hour networking reception at 5 p.m. and a panel presentation at 6 p.m.
WDET-FM 101.9, 6/23
A discussion about the arts and arts entrepreneurship, titled 'The Business of Art,' will take place 5:00 - 7:30pm Thursday, June 26, in the Schaver Music Recital Hall and the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery of Wayne State's Old Main building. The event is presented by the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFPCA). Event organizer and CFPCA Alumni Officer, Rhonda Welsh, appeared on the Craig Fahle Show with Business of Art panelist Jocelyn Rainey and CFPCA Senior Associate Dean Dennis Tini.
