CFPCA Offers Extensive Lineup of Noel Night Activities Saturday, December 1

Wayne State University's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFPCA) will once again display its robust participation in Midtown Detroit's 46th Annual Noel Night on Saturday, December 1, 2018. CFPCA students, staff and alumni will engage the community with a variety of events, activities and performances.

Building Utopia

  • Building Utopia, organized by Lauren Kalman, features artists who explore issues surrounding the construction of utopia including the individual in relation to the whole, fabricated spaces and experiences, and the failure of designed systems. Building Utopia features works by Olayami Dabls; EcoTechArt; Aaron Jones; Asma Kazmi; Kambui Olujimi; and Wesley Taylor, Complex Movements in collaboration with Siwatu-Salama Ra.

    Winter Art and Retail Market

  • Located in Woodward and Warren Park between Cass and Woodward Ave. (313) 577-9789
  • The Winter Art and Retail Market (WARM) is a fun and festive pop-up holiday marketplace that will be located in Wayne State University's Woodward and Warren Park. The marketplace will feature limited-edition items and one-of-a-king objects from more than 50 local businesses and artists. The WARM is a collaboration between Wayne State's Office of Economic Development, James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History and TechTown Detroit.

    Music Showcase

  • 7:00 p.m.
  • Enjoy a variety of performances by the Electronic Music Ensemble, Men's Glee Club and Women's Chorale and the award-winning String Quartet IL Segreto. The group, formed by Department of Music alumni, perform a versatile showcase of music from Bach and Beethoven to Sonic Youth, Pish, and MUSE.

    Company One Dance Concert at the Maggie Allesee Dance Theatre

  • This holiday season join Ebenezer Scrooge on a ghostly adventure in Dickens' classic story. When his former business partner, now deceased, visits the miserly old Scrooge, he begins a journey into the past, present and future to learn the true meaning of Christmas.     Reindeer Run

  • 5:00 p.m.
  • Get ready for a rollicking romp around Midtown in this exhilarating scavenger hunt presented by the Wayne State University College of Fine Performing and Communication Arts! Your team of four or more will decipher clues that will lead you to Noel Night destinations, where you will take photos of your "answers". The first three teams to cross the finish line with the most correct answers will receive a jolly pack of prizes. Check-in at the southwest corner of Warren and Woodward Avenues. The reindeer round up begins at 4:45 p.m. -- teams must be checked in by 4:55 p.m. to participate. The starting bells begin at 5:00 p.m.
