The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance at Wayne State University presents the BFA Senior Capstone Dance Showcase on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre. This concert displays a collection of choreography created by the dance program's 10 graduating Bachelors of Fine Arts graduating seniors.
In the dancers' final year of the BFA program, the emerging choreographers created pieces and collaborated in the production of the concert, which serves as a culmination of their studies in dance at Wayne State. Each choreographer's work presents a unique vision and creative choreographic approach.
The BFA Senior Capstone Dance Showcase takes place at the Maggie Allesee Studio Theater on the third floor of Old Main, located at 4841 Cass Avenue, on Wayne State University's campus. Jessica Masse (La Salle) presents a charming and whimsical representation of the boundless endeavor when one deals with pursuing her/his passion. The reflection of success is personified by the jazz era of the roaring 1920s.
Kali Skodack (Oscoda) has created a dance that interrogates an external and internal struggle that accompanies events, emotions and turmoil throughout everyday life. The movement is inspired by the sexual objectification that women experience in modern day society.
Stephanie Sickles (Portage) choreographed "Journey" which is about taking an exploration on through yourself and noticing the different reactions that each one brings. The piece explores how one behaves with their family and friends, with the world around them, and by themselves.
Nicholas Gottron (Dearborn) has created a dance-on-film, which presents how people experience their own fate.
Morgan Lansky (Royal Oak) will present "Kindred" which is a representation of occurrences, specifically within families, and how there is a need to seem as though everything is simple; even when it most definitely is not.
Audrey Johnson (Plymouth) created "we're gonna fall off the face of the earth" which is the performance of a choreographic practice that invites fantasy and desire into the reality of a communal dance-making space.
Bailey Allshouse (Farmington Hills) has investigated a process in which he has become more aware of his interests towards ambiguous images through dance theatre. He is also learning to deal with the artistic choices that he does not understand, and more importantly not question them.
Brooke Viselli (Windsor) An abstract project of how the City of Detroit is on a prosperous path of an on-going revitalization through the synergy of local artists and their unification of talents.
Maria LoPiccolo (Riverside) choreographed "r e me m b e r" which is a collaboration with dancers surrounding an exploration of embodied resonance through sensory and personal experience.
Brianna Failla (Chesterfield) is also presenting a dance-on-film project.
The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance is a division of Wayne State University's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFPCA). CFPCA serves 2,500 students majoring in 17 undergraduate and 10 graduate programs. CFPCA's alumni include a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, recipients of, and nominees for the Grammy, Emmy, Tony, Golden Globe, Obie, Screen Actors Guild and Caldecott awards.
