Associate Professor in Art Lauren Kalman named Françoise van den Bosch award winner

The Françoise van den Bosch Foundation announced that James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History Associate Professor in Art Lauren Kalman was named winner of the 2020 Françoise van den Bosch Award. The award is presented every other year to a designer of jewelry of international standing, in recognition of their works and contribution to the field.

From the Françoise van den Bosc Foundation:

"The board of the foundation is proud to announce Lauren Kalman as the recipient of the 2020 Françoise van den Bosch Award. The jury, consisting of Jo Bloxham, Lin Cheung, Vanessa de Gruijter, Anders Ljungberg, Theo Smeets and Martijn van Ooststroom (chair) was unanimous in their decision.

Kalman is a maker of objects relating to the body, creating wearable objects as well as performative pieces and installations that expand the concept of body ornamentation. Her practice is a crossover between craft, performance and visual art. Using the body as a metaphor, she creates visually provocative pieces that challenge what jewelry and body adornment can be. Through her work, she investigates sex, gender, power and beauty - relevant themes that are bigger than the jewelry discipline alone.

For her contribution to the field of contemporary jewelry and craft, Kalman receives the 2020 Françoise van den Bosch Award."
