Hollywood Cinematographer, Camera Operator and Bob Allison Endowed Chair in Media, Michelle J. Crenshaw to present at Hilberry Theatre

The College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts' Department of Communication in collaboration with the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance will host Cinematographer Michelle J. Crenshaw, the Fall 2017 holder of the Bob Allison (Allesee) Endowed Chair in Media, during a special event on Wednesday, November 15. Crenshaw, a native Detroiter, will discuss the trajectory of her career in independent film and the Hollywood industry as she and her students demonstrate the impact of camera and lighting in transforming a three dimensional scene to a two-dimensional screen. The event will take place at the Hilberry Theatre.

Crenshaw has made her career behind the lens in the motion picture industry. She values the collaboration between art and science and the use of technological tools in creating the visual story. Her recent Cinematographer credits include the independent thriller, As Evil Does, currently in post-production; Bridging The Divide: Tom Bradley and the Politics of Race, released and aired in 2015-16 on PBS; and The New Black, which premiered at the 2014 LA Film Festival and aired on the PB series Independent Lens.

"The comfort of coming home to Detroit and sharing my journey of Cinematography with future media makers is absolutely invigorating," said Crenshaw.

A reception will take place at 5:30 p.m., followed by the presentation from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. and a meet-and-greet with the artist will conclude the evening. Please RSVP online by November 8 at rsvp.wayne.edu/events-wayne-edu-crenshaw.
