Thomas C. Rumble Fellowship competition

The Graduate School allocates Rumble Fellowships to departments that offer the PhD degree and the competition for the fellowships occurs within those respective departments. In addition to the department PhD Rumble Fellowships, the Graduate School is supporting a CFPCA college-wide competition to award Rumble Fellowships for departments that offer the MFA and MM degrees. Any MFA/MM Rumble Fellowship award would be in the Rumble Fellowship category of either "Recruitment," "Development of Research and Scholarship," or "Completion."

Eligibility

The competition is open to new and currently enrolled full-time MFA and MM graduate students majoring in the following programs: Art, Theatre, Dance, or Music. Current students must be in good academic standing and must be enrolled in the Fall and Winter semesters during the 2023-2024 academic year. New students should be admitted and planning to be full-time students during 2024-2025.

Please note: The recipient may not hold any other fellowship, graduate assistantship or internship concurrently; the recipient may not hold salaried or fulltime employment either within or outside the University. Prior Rumble Fellowship recipients are not eligible.

Award terms

The fellowship is made up of the following components.

  • Academic Year Stipend of $21,627 paid in bi-weekly checks from mid-August 2024 through mid-May 2025.
  • Tuition Scholarship that covers the full tuition cost for 7.5 to 10 graduate credit hours each of the Fall and Winter semesters, unless in maintenance status. Only credit hours listed on a student's Plan of Work (or expected to be listed on the Plan of Work) are eligible to be paid by the scholarship.
