Freedom Players present I AM...

The Freedom Players is touring a devised theatre and dance performance piece called "I AM..." created by the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance's Billicia Charnelle Hines, Dr. Ras Mikey Courtney and Karen Prall. The Freedom Players is one of the two ensembles within the Black Theatre and Dance Program.

"I Am…" is about the continual challenge of seeking liberation. As a group of young Detroit based artists meet and interact, challenges arise as they realize their birth was political. These artists explore how they can survive and thrive in a place where everything seems to be set up against them? As clashes build, their journey leads them on a path of discovery and renewal. This play will illuminate and engage audiences in current socio-political challenges, utilizing teaching artists through performance and conversation on race, gender, sexuality and privilege as a means of bridging communities. There will be two performances on Monday, February 4, 5 and 7 p.m. at the Student Center in room 285.

This event is sponsored by the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, Wayne State Office of Multicultural Student Engagement and the Wayne State Office of Diversity Inclusion.
