Baseball Sets School Record With 24 All-Academic Honorees

Baseball also sets program mark with 15 Excellence Team selections.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball program had a school-record 24 GLIAC All-Academic recipients for the 2021 season (previous mark was 21 in 2019), which ranked second in the conference and marks the eighth straight year the Warriors have had at least 17 student-athletes receive All-Academic accolades.  WSU had 15 All-Academic Excellence honorees, which eclipses last year's school record total of 14.  Wayne State has had 205 GLIAC All-Academic honorees over head coach Ryan Kelley's last 11 seasons at the helm.

Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were graduate students Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day) and Dillon McInerney (Richmond, Mich.), redshirt seniors Brendan Bilkovic (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Jack Schmidt (Fishers, Ind. / Indianapolis Cathedral), seniors Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard), CJ Drogosch (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) and Nicholas O'Dea (Livonia, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central), redshirt juniors Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) and Jacob Raymond (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower), redshirt sophomores Max Hendricks (White Lake, Mich. / Hartland) and Joey Muzljakovich (Mayfield, Mich. / Traverse City St. Francis), sophomores Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich. / Carleton Airport) and Kaden Stively (Washington, Mich. / Romeo), along with redshirt freshman Kyle Domzalski (Huntington Woods, Mich. / Berkley).

Bilkovic (Marketing) and McInerney (MBA) were recognized for the fourth time in their careers, while Drogosch (Management), Finkbeiner (Construction Management) and MacLean (MBA) received All-Academic honors for the third consecutive year.  Hendricks (Computer Science) and Muzljakovich (Construction Management) earned recognition for the second straight season.  Schmidt (Exercise and Sport Science), Cox (Exercise and Sport Science) and Foley (Marketing) were all on the Excellence Team for the second consecutive year, after receiving All-Academic Team accolades in 2019.  Domzalski (Construction Management), Fitzpatrick (Civil Engineering) and Stively (Management) collected the award in their first season of eligibility.  O'Dea (Finance) and Raymond (Public Relations) were also in their first year of eligibility after transferring from Kalamazoo Valley C.C. and Oakland University, respectively.

WSU had nine members of the baseball squad collect All-Academic Team accolades for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.  They were redshirt senior Dustin Renfroe (West Bloomfield, Mich. / U. of Detroit Jesuit), redshirt juniors Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.), Nate Roede (Byron Center, Mich.) and Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), juniors Jacob Badalamenti (Clinton Township, Mich. / Warren De La Salle), Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) and Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich.), redshirt sophomore Brett Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich.), along with redshirt freshman Kyle Ray (Woodhaven, Mich.).

Roede (Management) and Tanderys (Health & Physical Education Teaching) earned All-Academic honors for the third straight season, while Badalamenti (Global Supply Chain Management), DeLanoy (Accounting) and Zimmerman (Finance) received their second GLIAC All-Academic certificate.  Ray (Construction Management) was a first-time eligible honoree, with Miller (Finance), Ramirez (Global Supply Chain Management) and Renfroe (Exercise and Sport Science) earning their first All-Academic recognition.

Wayne State shattered the previous mark of 206 Academic All-GLIAC honorees set in 2019-20 with 253 for the 2020-21 academic year.  WSU has produced 1,694 Academic All-GLIAC recipients over the last decade.
